The publication Ecological Organic Agriculture: The Alternative for Africa aims to re-address the balance and build awareness of accessible and resilient organic-based production systems. It documents the many highly convincing examples throughout the continent of the enormous development and progress ecological organic agriculture can bring – especially to resource poor farmers and their communities. This should help position ecological organic agriculture as a key tool in addressing the pressing problems of food security and climate change in Africa and thus position ecological organic agriculture higher on the agenda of African governments, policy makers and the international donor community.
The contributions of the successful International Conference on Ecological Organic Agriculture: The Alternative for Africa that took place in November 2011 at the UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, make up the core of this publication.
The second part of the book offers more valuable information and networking resources and opportunities which are crucially important to help support the sector’s development.
